We took a road trip to Roquebrune-Cap-Martin & Menton on a weekend while in Nice. Actually the day before, we drove all the way to Grasse as the staff at tourism information misinformed us that we could see sunflower fields and lavender fields in Grasse too (other than Provence)!!! After more than an hour drive, we were told by the locals that they only have perfumeries in Grasse!!! The fields are in Provence which is another 5 hours drive from Grasse!!! :O We dropped the idea, and headed back to Nice while stopping by Antibes for a nice dinner. I guess we just have to make another trip to South of France and stay in Provence on our next trip ;)
On our way to Menton, we stopped by Roquebrune-Cap-Martin to take in the breathtaking views. I wish I had a better lens or camera with me. Our EF 50mm F1.4 USM lens that we bought for taking outfit photos is more for portraits and close-up of single object. And my Leica D-lux 5 just can't handle landscape from a far away distance that well. Thus, I have to research and save up for a better lens to take nicer travel photos on our future vacations.
After Roquebrune-Cap-Martin, we drove all the way to the border between France & Italy in Menton. We didn't crossover though. The views from the border is just amazing!!! I believe it is even more beautiful at sunset and night but Hub is not a seasoned driver and both of us couldn't navigate well at night thus we didn't stay that late into the night but we stayed for an early seafood dinner near the beach though.
As Hub parked our rental car, he made orange juice too! As I was wondering who in the right mind would throw oranges on the streets... we suddenly looked up to find rows and rows of ORANGE TREES!!! IN THE MIDDLE OF THE CITY!!!! :O :O :O From where I live, nothing grows from the trees. Our trees don't even change colours in fall! *ahem* Therefore, please pardon us for being overwhelmed by our teeny weeny discovery of orange trees in the city center of Menton. LOL!
Check out the photos on my instagram. It was a rare occasion where I actually INSTAgram-ed instead of LATERgram. "I discovered orange trees!!!" ROFL!
I looked kinda awkward here but the view behind me is nice! So focus on what's behind me and the glistening sea!
The cars were waiting in queue to cross the checkpoint to ITALY!
